BELAGAVI: CM Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone of different development projects worth Rs 1,000 crore in Ramdurg taluk on Monday including Veerabhadreshwar lift irrigation scheme estimated for Rs 544 crore.
The programme was held in the premises of Shivasagar sugar factory in Udupudi of Ramdurg taluk. Veerabhadreshwar lift irrigation scheme is lifting 2.50 tmcft water from Ghataprabha river during rainy season and supplying water to kharif crops to the combined area about 17,377 hectares in Ramdurg taluk of Belagavi district and Mudhol taluk of Bagalkot district.
The CM called it a decade-long pending project which was going to be executed by the present Congress government following the efforts of MLA Ashok Pattan. “I had promised spending Rs 10 thousand crore annually on irrigation projects. Keeping my word, we spent Rs 10 thousand and 11 thousand crore in the past two years respectively and kept Rs 12 thousand crore in the last budget. As a part of the promise, Veerabhadreshwar lift irrigation has been undertaken,” he said.
Meanwhile he said the proposal of Salapur lift irrigation scheme that provides water to 20 villages of Ramdurg taluk and 8 villages of Badami in Bagalkot district is under consideration. Besides, Kempawad and Basaveshwar lift irrigation projects will be implemented looking the financial status. All these projects will help to boost the financial condition of farmers, especially in Ramdurg taluk and also increase underground water. Meanwhile, the CM lay the foundation stones of different development projects including the scheme of supplying 24X7 drinking water to Ramdurg town and surrounding villages at the cost of Rs 59 crores, beautification of Ramdurg town and improving basic amenities like roads, drainage and electricity under Rs 47 crore and funds under Nagarothan scheme funded by the Centre, double road between Sangolli Rayanna Cirlce to KEB at the cost of Rs 22 crore under KSHIP, the establishment of divisional office of HESCOM, the construction of DySP office building, pre-metric hostels at Hirekopp (KS) and Ramdurg town and construction of ITI college building in the cost of Rs 90 lakhs.
