Mangaluru: After a social media uproar, the Mangaluru University has withdrawn a chapter “Maguvina Tandhe” from its official Kannada language textbook “Nudi Noopura” prescribed for the third semester of BCom students.

The lesson was based on a story written by Late Mattara Vittal Hegde. Some section of the students and professors alleged that the lesson portrayed and justified the extra martial and illicit relationships as normal.

After the pages of the textbook went viral on social media criticising the lesson, the university released the circular stating the lesson “Maguvina Tandhe” would be withdrawn from the textbook. However, the university has not mentioned the reason why the lesson was withdrawn.
