Six men belonging to the right-wing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have been arrested for allegedly attacking noted Malayalam poet K Sreekumar on Monday night.
Sreekumar was allegedly attacked by the RSS workers when he was returning home after delivering a speech at a public function in Kerala’s Kollam district.
Sreekumar was allegedly abused and manhandled by a group of RSS workers. His car also served minor damages in the attack.
Sreekumar later said he managed to get away after people around intervened and escorted him to safety. He later filed a complaint with the local police.
“While I was trying to get into my car, a group of people detained me and started showering abuse. They tried to attack me, but thanks to a group of people who intervened, I escaped without much trouble,” Sreekumar told India Today.
The police has now taken into custody six men, all belonging to the RSS cadre, in connection with the incident
Earlier today, the Chief Minister’s Office also intervened in the issue and directed the Kollam police to act tough on the miscreants.
