Two youths carrying Rs 1.65 crore held at Udupi railway station

Udupi 03 November 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) The railway police on Friday arrested two person while they were carrying an unaccounted cash worth Rs.1.65 crore in Netravati Express train here at Indrali Railway Station of Udupi.

The detained has been identified as Ganesh (23) of Sangli, Maharastra and Prakash Kumar(28) from Rajasthan.

As per sources, when the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) found the suspicious behavior of the duo in the Air conditioner couch of the train at Kumta, he then informed the RPF Udupi personnel Mohammed MV who was on duty inside the train. The RPF personnel conducted a search operation and found 2 bags of cash worth Rs.1.65 crore in 500 and 2000 denominations.

As the information was alerted, the RPF Sub-Inspector Santosh Gaonkar and other personnel boarded the train as the train reached Udupi and started interrogating them.

The two youth confessed that they were carrying money for purchasing land on behalf of Jaswant Singh of Rajasthan, a textile merchant who currently resides in Kannur of Kerala.

The Income Tax department who later reached to the spot called Jaswanth Singh on phone and asked to submit relevant documents to claim the seized amount.

It is suspected that the money was smuggled for distributing them among voters as the elections are approaching.

A case regarding the matter has been handed over to Manipal police station .
