Manipal: Karnataka State Traditional Fisherman’s Organisation protests against bull trawling and light fishing

Manipal: Demanding a ban on light based fishing and bull trawl fishing in sea, a huge protest rally was carried out by Karnataka State Traditional Fisherman’s Organisation of Udupi district in front of DC’s office in Manipal on Monday, 12 March.

It was demanded that the state government should follow the direction of central government to ban unscientific fishing which is resulting in loses to the traditional fishermen.

The protesters alleged that the subsidized kerosene had also been stopped since 2-3 months.

DC Priyanka Mary Francis responded the protesters and said that the strict action against such fishing are carried out and 60 boats have been seized so far for using generators and their licences have been cancelled. The coastal security police Dy.SP and the fisheries department deputy director will continuously be monitoring to curb the unscientific fishing, she added.
