Excise department official busts illegal liquor smuggling attempt at Karwar; liquor worth Rs.96,000 seized

Karwar 10 February 2019: (Bhatkallys News Bureau)Karwar excise officials on Saturday detained five men while they were allegedly smuggling Goan liquor worth Rs. 96,000 here at Madageri forest region of Karwar.

The detained have been identified as Joseph D’souza, Abdul Khan, Satish Kalghatkar, Satyavijay Maleskar, and Deepak Maleskar. All are resident of Karwar.

Working on a tip-off, Excise Deputy Commissioner Suvarna Naik and her team raided the forest area at Madageri and successfully arrested all the five accused red handed while they were carrying illegal liquor with them.

Along with the liquor worth Rs.96,000, bags and Tyre tubes that were being used to carry liquor bottles were also seized during the operation.

Sub Inspector Revanna Sidappa, Balagowda Patel, Shivanand patel Ravi Naik, Khan, Basavraj and other officers were part of the operation.
