Forest officials arrest seven while illegally transporting 16 Tortoises

Ankola 10 September 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) The forest officials of Ankola on Sunday arrested seven men for allegedly catching and illegally transporting about 16 Tortoises from a lake of Mastikatta forest range of Ankola Taluka.

The accused have been identified as Nagappa Haller (58), Vasudev Haller (43), Narayan Agera (58), Ganapati Haller (33), Venkataramana Haller (28), Mahadev Haller (50) and Manjunath Sherughar (29). All are resident of Ankola.

According to the sources, the seven accused on Sunday caught about 16 Tortoises from a lake of Mastikatta forest Range and were illegally transporting them on a Rickshaw.

Working on a credible information, under the direction of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) K Ganapati, Range Forest Officer (RFO) VP Naik and his team conducted the raid and arrested all the seven accused.

The Forest officials also seized the rickshaw during the raid.

The accused have been sent to judicial custody up to 22 September.
