It was plain luck for this Iowa man who won $4.38 million (Dh16.8 million) lottery jackpot with a ticket he got for free as part of a promotion. Chuck Anderson of Davenport said he did not buy the winning ticket as he never intended to enter the Lotto America drawing.
Instead, he had received the ticket for free along with the Powerball ticket he purchased earlier this month from Kwik Star store in Davenport.
Anderson said he did not believe when he first saw all the digits matching and was quoted as saying in UPI, “I had to check them again,” he said. “I had to look a couple times.” On Thursday, he went to the Iowa Lottery headquarters to claim his prize for matching all six numbers in Saturday’s Lotto America drawing: 8-15-18-32-45, with Star Ball 1.
The Iowa Lottery said it is giving away ‘Lotto Surprise’ free plays this month to random players who buy tickets in games selected by the lottery. The qualifying game chosen for the first week was Powerball, and Anderson was selected when he bought his ticket.
The lucky winner said he still cannot believe he won the jackpot and said, “I’m waiting until the money is deposited. I won’t believe it until it’s there.”
