Bhatkal 6 December 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Welfare Party of India Bhatkal Unit on Thursday December 6, submitted a memorandum to Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner, addressed to the President of India Ramnath Kovind seeking his and Supreme Court’s intervention in maintaining peace at the disputed Ayodhya site.
The memorandum was submitted in the backdrop of ‘Black day’ that is being called by the Muslims across the country to mark the 26th anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992.
The memorandum also comes at a time when the tension in Ayodhya is growing with several fire-brand Hindutva groups strongly calling for construction of Ram Mandir and demanding ordinance for the same to be passed in the parliament by the Narendra Modi led BJP government before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The memorandum requested the President to “issue strict directions to the election commission of India to keep an eagle’s eye on all the political parties and prevent them from misusing and disturbing the peaceful atmosphere through their inflammatory speeches and rallies”
It further adds “Your Excellency, we implore you to direct the Supreme Court of India, to take cognisance of the situation and maintain the status quo of the disputed site and speeden the hearing on this case and resolve the matter”.
Speaking to the media, officials of WPI Bhatkal urged members of both the communities to maintain peace and to refrain from fighting over the issue which directly benefits the political outfits to gain political mileage thereby manipulating the sentiments of people based on religious politics.
Newly elected office-bearers of the party including President Abdul Jabbar Asadi, Vice President Dr. Naseem, General Secretary Showkat Khateeb, Secretary Safwan and others were present during the event at Bhatkal AC’s office.
