Bhatkal 10 February 2020: Majlis Isha Wa Tanzeem on Sunday wrote Basavaraj Bomai, Home Minister of Karnataka urging for immediate release of two women who were arrested on charges of sedition for scripting the play on stand against CAA-NRC at Shaheen School in Bidar. The memorandum was handed over to Bhatkal Tahsildar on Monday evening at his office here in the city.

In the letter, Tanzeem stated that, “India being a Democratic nation has the fundamental right to agree or disagree with the policies of the Government and personalities in the Government. Under Article 19 (1)(B), of the Indian Constitution, Every Indian enjoys the right to register/express his/her protest against any law or policy brought in by the Government in contravention of the basic principles and articles of the Indian constitution. ”

The act of police of arresting the Headmistress and a parent (widow) has also been criticized by The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Childs Right (KSCPCR), the memorandum added.

Members of Tanzeem demanded immediate release of arrested ladies and further demanded that the sedation case levied against them be withdrawn at the earliest. The memorandum also demanded action against the investigation officer (I.O) for not following juvenile act 2015 and threatened of mass protest against the “suppressive, undemocratic and autocratic steps of Police and the Government”.
