Kumta 08 Aug 2017: Six students of SDM College Honnavar were returning from a picnic trip from Gokarna when their car toppled on Kumta NH 66 injuring five of them, while two of them are reported to be in a critical condition after they sustained some serious head injuries while the other three have multiple fractures on their bodies.

The two students said to be critical were shifted to a private hospital in Manipal for further treatment while the rest were admitted to a Honnavar hospital. All the victims are reported to be residents of Honnavar Taluk.

Sources revealed the incident took place when the car in which they were travelling was heading towards Honnavar when the driver lost the control over the wheels and was about to hit a car that was parked on NH 66 and in a bid to save themselves from the collision turned the car off the road resulting in the car ditching itself in a nearby drench.

Sources also praised the efforts from the members of Kumta Al-Ittihad Youth Committee who rushed to the spot as soon as the news of the accident went viral and helped the victims to reach hospital by arranging necessary help to them including the ambulance service.
