Two million Muslims flocked to the north of the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Friday, January 30, for Bishaw Ijtima (the World Muslim Congregation), the world's largest annual Islamic gathering after Hajj.
For three days, Muslims are praying and listening to speeches by prominent scholars at the gathering site on the banks of the river Turag at Tongi on Dhaka's outskirts.
Held for the first time in the 1960s, the event was launched by Tablig Jamaat, a non-political group that urges people to follow Islam in their daily lives.
