Government not serious on improving the Situation of Muslims – Er. Mohammad Salim
A discussion was arranged in the Rajasthan State Office of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on the proposed budget for the year 2007-2008 by the Central Government. The discussion was presided over by state president Er. Mohammad Salim.
The discussion concluded with the remarks that the budget was highly disappointing for the Muslim Community. The following resolutions were passed in the meeting:-
·
After the Sachchar Committee Report on Muslims, it was being expected that the government would do something seriously to implement the recommendations of the committee. From this point of view, the budget is highly disappointing.
·
Only 63 crore Rupees aid was increased for the National Minorities Deelopment and Finance Corporation, which is so meager that it amounts to around 4 Rupees per head. It seems to be ridiculous as compared to the Muslim population.
·
The total allocation in the Budget for scholarships of the Muslim students and development in the Muslim dominated districts is 381 crores. This amount is so small as compared to the demand of Rs. 10,500 crores. This scanty amount of allocation shows that the government is not serious about the betterment of the Muslims.
·
It is surprising that there is no mention of increasing any amount in the corpus fund of the Maulana Azad Foundation, established by the government for the educational upliftment of the Muslim Community. A demand has been continuously put before the government to increase this corpus fund at least to Rs. 1000 crores.
·
The overall increase in the budget for education and health is a welcome step, but the budget is quite disappointing urban educated youth.
·
The budget is likely to increase the amount of debt on each Indian citizen, instead of decreasing it. The budget would not reduce the cost of general commodities for a common man.
